The attached articles help to solve com port problems.
The most important thing is to figure out what the problem is and solve it, not just “try everything”. Unless you ensure that the COM port is installed in Windows, and know the COM port number to set, you can waste a lot of time.
First, make sure the COM port is properly lnstalled. Look in Control Panel / system / hardware / device manager / ports to see the port number and make sure it is working. Often, users did not let the install procedure complete. You need to let the Found New Hardware Wizard install twice, first for the “Atlantis” device, and then for the “USB / Serial converter”.
Then make sure the BrainMaster software is using the com port number shown. Set this either under View or Change Settings / Data Channels, or under the Training Screen menu “Data”.
Also make sure no other devices (blackberry, PDA, WIFI device, etc) are using the com port.
A WIFI device on the USB can cause intermittent problems. First operate the BrainMaster with no other devices on the USB interfaces. Then, you can connect the devices to see if they are causing the problem
This solves most of the problems. You need to ensure that Windows has fully installed the device, and that you are using the assigned COM port number.
Pay attention to the exact error.
“Error opening port” means that Windows cannot open the port at all. This is a Windows issue, and is addressed by making sure the port is installed in Windows, and you are using the correct port number.
“No Response from Module” means a port was opened but no data is seen. This could be an incorrect port number, or a bad battery, if it is an older BrainMaster (Not an Atlantis).
