The Brain Performance Index (BPI), integrated within NeuroGuide Deluxe, provides an estimate of the efficiency of neural resource allocation. The BPI does not aim to replace traditional neuropsychological tests. Instead, it complements them, especially when a patient struggles with conventional assessments or when quick, repeat testing is needed.
The BPI is based on data from the Weschler Intelligence Test and EEG recordings. We have gathered from 19 channels using a linked-ears reference in an eyes-closed condition. This study involved 339 normal control subjects, ranging in age from 6 to 18 years. EEG variables that showed significant correlations (at a P value < .01) with IQ scores revealed a correlation coefficient of approximately .58. The key variables contributing to this relationship include short time delays between the frontal lobes and the rest of the brain, elevated power, and reduced coherence. These three combined metrics form the foundation of the BPI, providing an overall prediction of the efficiency with which neural resources are allocated.
