What Equipment Will I Need?
Brainmaster Technologies has systems to suit all entry level needs for neurofeedback, QEEG, and brain mapping. And, we provide sales and technical support to plan your future direction.
Starting in the 1960’s, neurofeedback was called EEG biofeedback and used stand-alone machines. It started with several forms of what is now termed traditional Neurofeedback. These basic protocols used an amplifier with only a couple of channels. Now, neurofeedback can use up to 19 to 24 channels. The amplifier is the heart of the neurofeedback system and will represent your largest outlay of capital.
The suggested amplifier to begin with, if you are a slow and cautious starter is the Atlantis I (1-4 channels) which retails for $2,995.00 and has built in impedance monitoring. The impedance measurement is necessary to guarantee good contact of the electrodes to the scalp.

|Atlantis 1 - Unity only with BrainAvatar 4.0 software
|Atlantis 1 Bronze Package – Includes Atlantis 1 with BrainAvatar 4.0, Multimedia Player for the ability to include music and videos for feedback and 18” earclips.
The Discovery (1-19 channels) is the amplifier of choice for today and future requirements at a greatly discounted price. It retails for $5,800.00.

|Discovery 24 Ruby Package – Includes Discovery 24 with BrainAvatar 4.0 Acquisition, Training and Live Loreta projector Software, impedance lid, Multimedia Player, 2 Electro-Cap
Of course, there is software and accessories necessary to perform sessions. There is the basic software (Brainmaster 3.0) which is included with the purchase of the Atlantis or Brainmaster 1.5.9 which is included with the purchase of the Discovery. The BrainAvatar software upgrade including the Live Loreta Projector is available for both the Atlantis and the Discovery and has become the standard graphical interface for the industry with vast improvements over the original software. You will also need electrodes, electrode paste, electro-caps, electro-gel and cabling to complete the installation.
In the mid 1980’s when computing power became more powerful, independent universities and scientists discovered and made available QEEG Brain Mapping. In order to perform brain mapping, these institutions first had to interview, explore and document the EEG activity of the “normal” human brain from thousands of subjects. They discovered how dramatically the human brain changes throughout the epochs [stages] of life, with the greatest changes occurring in young children. Therefore, age related data of normal human brain EEG activity had to be acquired, tested, catalogued, converted to databases and published for peer review. When we perform brain mapping what we do is compare your client’s brain to that of one of these normal databases to determine deviations from the norm. Therefore, to do this work you must have access to one of the EEG database software packages to produce a QEEG brain map report.
Once you have the database, you can train the client’s dysfunctional EEG activity to the norm. This is called ZScore training and has been used since the mid-1990’s. It is a more advanced form of therapy requiring additional training and software. ZScore training is the cutting-edge of neurofeedback technologies.
Standard QEEG databases utilize 19 channels of EEG data for brain mapping. The Atlantis 1 amplifier is equipped to perform brain mapping summing 4 channels of data at a time. This type of brain map is called a mini-Q because the EEG of the entire scalp is recorded 4 channels at a time and thus certain metrics (Phase and Coherence) are only completed for bilateral pairs. However, the Atlantis 1 is fully capable of performing 4 channel ZScore training. To perform brain mapping and ZScore training using the Atlantis you will need access to a database service (New Mind Maps) to create brain maps and either QEEGPro or BrainDX DLL to perform ZScore training. You will also need the MiniQ II to switch between channels automatically during the assessment session. Your choice of Atlantis 1 Packages with brain mapping and ZScore capabilities are as follows:
|Atlantis I Silver Package - Includes Atlantis I with BrainAvatar 4.0, MultiMedia Player Package, 18" earclips, 4 channel input cable, Jumper Adapter, and your choice of Z-Score Training Software plus ZPlus Z-Score Add-on

Over the last few years, many practitioners began using pEMF technology (MicroTesla Stim) according to studies which encouraged nudging the brain towards more regulation to gain faster and more lasting results. Brainmaster packages including the Atlantis 1 with MicroTesla pEMF include:

Are Lease options available?
In a simple answer YES! Now that you know the equipment and software requirements to bring neurofeedback into your practice you may be wondering how you might swing this financially. You may ask the sales team at Brainmaster Technologies for their very affordable lease option. There is a plan that can easily fit your budget.
Who will perform neurofeedback on my clients, and how will I or my practitioners be trained?
As a sole practitioner in a mental health based practice, you may want to perform neurofeedback on your clients yourself. Many people do. However, it is possible to supervise a technician to work with clients if your state licensing laws allow that. Specialized training and licensure or certification are important considerations.
At the present time among the 50 states of America, there is no specific licensure requirement to perform neurofeedback. To insure one is not practicing medicine without a license it is certainly a good practice to stay within your scope of practice. In other words if you are a licensed psychologist it is totally within your scope of practice to use neurofeedback to help remedy psychological maladies. However, according to the FDA, Neurofeedback at this moment is only approved for stress reduction and any malady related to stress. It is very important that any unlicensed technician that is employed understand this. In other words it would be illegal to say “I can cure ADD, depression, bipolar disorder and so on using Neurofeedback”. One can say “I can help relieve the stress brought on by ADD, depression and so on.”
With that being said, all training for Brainmaster Technologies equipment is offered by Stress Therapy Solutions.
To aid practitioners in developing specialized competence , all training for Brainmaster Technologies equipment is offered by Stress Therapy Solutions
There are a number of training options. The first and best option is an In Service Training upon purchase or lease of your equipment. A certified instructor may be contracted to train you and your staff in your office for 3 days. The instructor will help set up the equipment and make sure It is in good working order. You will then be trained basic brain mapping and training protocols to get you up and running.
Are there certification or license requirements and if so how does one become certified?
Of course, you will want to get on a tract towards BCIA certification. Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) is the recognized “Board Certification” body for Biofeedback and Neurofeedback. The requirements for board certification include didactic training hours and mentoring. Both of these are offered by Stress Therapy Solutions to move you towards this prestigious rating.
How do I market this new practice to new clients?
